Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye is Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), leading the development and implementation of high-impact solutions to tackle challenges faced by the Ghanaian Health Sector in areas of strategic priority. He previously served as the Director of Family Health Division of the Ghana Health Service. Dr. Kuma-Aboagye is a Senior Public Health Physician Specialist, a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, has over 27 years’ experience as a clinician and Public Health Physician, and 20 years’ experience in Health Care practice and management in Ghana. He holds a Bachelor of Surgery and a Master of Public Health Degree, has published several publications, and is a member of the Editorial Board of the MEDICC Review. He also has managed several flagship programs in Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, Nutrition and Family Planning in Ghana, particularly the MDG’s Accelerated Fund (MAF) Program, the Ghana Limited Obstetric Ultrasonography Program for Primary Health Care, the Girls’ Iron Folic Acid Supplementation Program, and the Medical Screening for Schools Program. Dr. Kuma-Aboagye is a maternal health advocate and has worked relentlessly to reduce maternal deaths and improve survival and wellbeing of women and children in Ghana.
