Summary: The 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by world leaders in September 2015 set out a vision for a world free of poverty, hunger, disease and want. SDG 3, “Good Health and Well-Being,” calls on countries to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Highlights
- SDG 3.1: By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births; and no country should have an MMR > 140 per 100,000 live births.
- SDG 3.2: By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births.
How to Use: The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals with 169 targets that all 191 UN Member States have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2030. Stakeholders can use these universal goals as a call to action to achieve healthy populations and shape national and sub-nation targets and policies.
