MNH Metrics & Measurements

In 2015, with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), countries renewed commitments to reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths. At a global level, the Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) and Strategies for Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM) reinforce the SDG maternal and newborn mortality reduction targets and detail additional targets related to coverage of essential services and milestones. Measuring progress towards global MNH targets is only possible when countries are able to reliably count all maternal and newborn deaths and stillbirths and track additional EPMM and ENAP targets. However, in many settings, measurement systems are not able to reliably capture and generate data needed to monitor global MNH targets. This section of the Knowledge Hub offers resources that may be useful for maternal and newborn health stakeholders, including policy-makers, program managers, advocates, researchers, public health practitioners and others to learn more about measurement for MNH.
