Dakshitha Wickremarathne is a development practitioner from Sri Lanka with over 15 years of experience in global health policy and practice on maternal, adolescent and child health. A qualified social worker with an MSc in Public Policy from University College London, his focus of work has been on advocacy and policy development, program design and management in the areas of health system strengthening, improving government accountability and unlocking domestic resource mobilisation for family planning and sexual and reproductive health.
Dakshitha currently works for FP2030, liaising with government stakeholders, civil society actors and the private sector to develop, update and implement national maternal and reproductive health policies in 11 countries in the Asia – Pacific region. He has previously worked for IPPF, UNFPA, CARE and Search for Common Ground.
Dakshitha currently serves as a Board Member for Women Deliver. In the past, he has been an Advisor to UN Women’s Global Civil Society Advisory Group and was a Lancet Commissioner on adolescent health and well-being. In 2016 he was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as the youngest member of the ‘Every Woman Every Child Independent Accountability Panel’, shaping the Maternal, Newborn and Child health landscape through global and regional policy interventions. He served as a Co-Chair of the WHO’s Global Action for Measurement of Adolescent Health (GAMA) Advisory Group, and co-created a list of indicators to improve the measurement of adolescent health.
